about

What is the resonant history of a greenhouse?
How many times has the shovel hit a stone?
Has a pot tipped its earth, only to fall onto more earth?
How ripped and hard the rain peeled back the plastic,
the wind licked its doors?

For grace the creaky hinge sings freely into the night
and gets no reply.
And the warm light,
a welcome.
Feel its magnificent blessings,
thee warming beacon long past the end of day,
into the shoulders of the season.

What is the sound of a plant growing?
If we could speed it up to take root in our ears,
what strange language may mumble the mitochondrial matter
as it lends its rot to care for all.

How to listen to the growth of last season ?
What can we compose within the compost heap of time ?

From the land where sound was born is an in situ performance during the event À TABLE! hosted by Rurart.
For this performance I created a soundscape using only sounds of objects found in and around the greenhouse. Throughout the afternoon people explored the farm and passed through the greenhouse to listen, observe and ask questions about my process.
Using a dynamic microphone, sounds were gathered from the foliage, tools, physical structures, furniture, insects; welcoming the surrounding elements in through the microphone.
The intention of creating work from nothing was to be demonstrative, so that the attendees could witness and experience the transformation from physical space into the sonic realm live, and in real time.
