This one started with a field recording that remains here as an *unmodified original*. It is the anchor over which a slowly shifting 'scape emerges.

A highway gas station on a drive across provinces. Opening the car door I heard the tall reeds being pushed around intermittently by blustery winds, a chorus of crickets were activating their pointillist beacons in the grass; nearby trucks were repositioning and blasting their air brakes, issuing response to the insects with their own chorus of horns; all around in the distance, the wind and clusters of automobiles were exchanging the air; ventilation systems wheezing, gravel underfoot; I stopped to enjoy the feeling that I was a solo audience observing a spectacle, secretly through-composed.

Later, at home with the memory of that moment, remembering the feeling of listening, the memory augmented, feeling enhanced, a memory supplanted by a synth.

Composed upon, and mixed au treizème in August, 2019.
